13-Day Kenya/Tanzania Safari Itinerary

Upon arrival at JKIA Nairobi airport, you will be met and transferred to Nairobi Serena Hotel, where you are booked for one night on bed & breakfast basis.

Depart from your hotel at 7.30am and drive west of Nairobi city, enjoy the scenic views of the great Rift Valley as you drive down the Mai Mahiu escarpment past the old Catholic Chapel built by Italian prisoners of war in 1942. Continue west through Kenya’s breadbasket seeing endless wheat & maize farms as you come to Narok town. Drive on into Maasailand enjoying these scenic landscapes in this part of the Rift Valley, before arriving at your lodge time for lunch & check-in. You’ll be booked here on full board basis. Afternoon game viewing drive, dinner & overnight at your lodge.

Mara Serena Safari Lodge: A masterpiece copyright of a Masai village kraal, the Mara Serena Safari Lodge seemingly floats on a sea of rolling grasslands, located in the heart of the Maasai Mara’s famed Mara Triangle. It is the only lodge within the Mara Triangle, offering guests unmatched access to wildlife, including the Big Five and the great wildebeest migration (July to September). A beautiful pool looks out over the endless plains. The rooms are Masai-influenced in style, yet extremely comfortable. The main dining room, where delicious meals are served, has three large domes and three smaller ones, all resembling a traditional Masai village kraal. The Masai Mara Game Reserve: besides being one of the eight wonders of the world, is home to the Big Five and also a great world attraction of the annual wildebeest migration that takes place between the months of July through October when an estimated two million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of plains zebra and numerous gazelles cross into the Masai Mara from Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park, in search of pasture. It is a spectacle to behold watching these herds of wildebeests and zebra crossing through the crocodile infested Mara River as they make their way to the Mara Triangle in search of more pasture. Practically throughout the year, these rolling grasslands of Masai Mara are teeming with wildlife activity.

Here, you stand a chance of seeing all the Big Five besides a variety of other wildlife. Return to your lodge at sunset, for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast in the Mara, depart with your luggage, again driving through the Great Rift Valley to your next destination, Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge for lunch & check-in followed by afternoon game viewing drive within Lake Nakuru National Park before returning to your lodge for dinner & overnight.

Lake Nakuru National Park: is one of Kenya’s most famous wildlife sanctuaries with a thriving rhino population and a paradise for ornithologists with pelicans, cormorants, kingfishers and a host of numerous other birdlife. It is also home to the endangered Rothschild’s Giraffe.

After breakfast at Sarova Lion Hill Lodge, drive into Nairobi City for lunch, then drive south-east of Nairobi through the semi-arid landscape arriving at your next lodge located at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. Dinner & overnight at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge.

Amboseli National Park: is found in Loitoktok District in southern Kenya, near the Tanzania border. It is one of Kenya’s most iconic safari destinations covering 392 km² (151 sq mi), world-famous for its large elephant herds and breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. It offers a unique blend of wildlife, landscapes, and cultural experiences that make it a must-visit for travelers. It is cited by UNESCO as a Biosphere, the perfect co-existence of man & nature! Amboseli, being a semi-arid scrubland, is survived by two unique and natural swamps with floating vegetation. These swamps get their water through underground rivers coming in from the nearby Mt. Kilimanjaro. It is this floating vegetation that attracts numerous elephant families that make their way from the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro every morning to spend the day foraging through these swamps until late afternoon when they make their way back to the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Amboseli is nicknamed the “Home of the African Elephant” for its exceptionally large herds; visitors often see dozens of elephants at once. It is one of the best places in Africa for close-up elephant photography as well as a key site for elephant research, contributing to global understanding of elephant behavior and conservation. Additionally, Amboseli has over 400 bird species thriving in its swamps and wetlands, besides numerous other animal species.

After breakfast in Amboseli National Park, drive to the Kenya/Tanzania border at Namanga Town, where upon processing customs and immigration formalities, you will be met by your Tanzanian tour guide. Leaving Kenya behind, drive to Arusha Town in Tanzania, lunch in Arusha, followed by afternoon drive to your next lodge, Maramboi Tented Lodge.

After breakfast in your Maramboi Lodge, depart with picnic lunches for half-day game viewing drive within Tarangire National Park, Tanzania. After your picnic lunch, afternoon drive to Kitela Lodge for dinner & overnight.

Tarangire National Park: is famous for its massive elephant population with over 3,000 elephants, the densest population in Tanzania, and seasonal wildlife migrations, making it one of East Africa’s most unique safari destinations. It has more than 500 bird species, including yellow-collared lovebirds and kori bustards. Tarangire also boasts of ancient baobab trees, some over 1,000 years old, and is dotted with termite mounds that serve as lookout posts for predators. Tarangire National Park covers approx. 850 km² and, in the dry season, is second only to Ngorongoro Conservation Area in terms of concentration of wildlife. The park is spectacular in the dry season when many migratory wildlife species come back to the permanent waters of the Tarangire River which is the lifeline of the park.

After breakfast at Kitela Lodge, drive to Ngorongoro Crater, descend to the Ngorongoro Crater floor, which is about 2000 feet deep and 14 miles wide. The crater hosts a remarkable wildlife spectacle. The topography is simply stunning, inhabited by a range of over 25,000 species of animals, from predators to antelopes! There is a soda lake with flamingos. Spend the day exploring the Ngorongoro Crater, which is a world heritage site. Witness a magnificent array of habitats, each with its own unique wildlife and flora. Take time out to stretch your legs and enjoy a picnic lunch at Ngoitokitok Springs, watching the hippos jostle for position in the water. Continue with the game viewing drive till evening, ascend and drive to Ngorongoro Serena Lodge for dinner & overnight.

Early morning breakfast, before driving to Serengeti National Park via the western rim of Ngorongoro Crater. Game viewing at Serengeti National Park, Serengeti is probably the most famous game park in the world, and the starting point for the wildebeest annual migration. Spend the day exploring the full potential of Serengeti. Picnic Lunch enroute before arriving at your next lodge for dinner & overnight.

Serengeti National Park: In Maasai language, the word “Serengeti” means “endless plains”. Located in northern Tanzania and bordering Kenya’s Masai Mara, Serengeti is world-famous for the Great Migration, where over 1.5 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebras move across its vast plains. It is also home to the Big Five and has one of the highest densities of lions in Africa and over 500 bird species.

After an early morning breakfast, depart with picnic lunch boxes and enjoy game viewing through Central Serengeti towards the exit gate where you will have your lunch, before continuing your drive through Ngorongoro Conservation area onwards to Arusha Town for your overnight stay at Masai Land Safari Lodge.

After breakfast, transfer to the Tanzania/ Kenya border at Namanga Town. After immigration formalities, you will be met and transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Nairobi for your home bound flight.
